    Create alias, shortcut

    Hi, first-time poster.

    Running on a MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2015): El Capitan 10.11.6 (15G1421)

I have an Excel spreadsheet file in my viivo folder. Which shows in Finder like:
    "Stuff.xlsx.viivo"

with a folder icon. In Finder, I can double click, and spreadsheet opens within Excel.

    • What I want is a "shortcut" on my desktop that points at this file and when double-clicked opens the file in Excel.

If I create a Mac Alias and leave it in that folder, and double click, it opens as gobbledygook in a text editor.
I can create a copy of the file, but then I have 2 files

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks
    Jay

    jay,

Are you using a synced locker (meaning, you also have an unencrypted copy of stuff.xlsx in another folder)? If so, you should work with the unencrypted copy of the file. You could make an Alias of the unencrypted copy, and place that on your desktop.

If you are using a non-synced locker (meaning, you only have encrypted copies of your files), you MIGHT be able to create an alias of the xlsx.viivo file as follows:

    1. EXIT the Viivo Manager to stop Viivo.
    2. Create the Alias, and move it to your desktop.
    3. Restart Viivo

At this point, double-click on the Alias to see if it opens the Excel file.

Please note - this is NOT the intended way to use Viivo, and the results may be unpredictable.

Let us know if there are any questions!

Hey Joe, that WORKED perfectly. It made total sense "why" it worked too.

    Thanks a lot. Joe!!
